IPA-IAL 2018

Joint meeting of the International Paleolimnology Association and the International Association of Limnogeology

The joint meeting will be held 18–21 June 2018 at Stockholm University, Sweden (www.su.se). The organizers for the 2018 meeting are Malin Kylander (Stockholm University), Dan Hammarlund (Lund University) and myself, Richard Bindler (Umeå University). The website address is http://ipa-ial.geo.su.se. More information will be added to the site as we progress.

We would like to open a call for session proposals (and session chairs) for the 2018 joint meeting of the International Paleolimnology Association and the International Association of Limnogeology.

For those interested in proposing and chairing a session, please keep in mind the typical size of IPA and IAL meetings and the breadth of interests within and between the two associations. So sessions should not be too narrowly focused. For previous meetings there have two parallel sessions running with a total of about 15 sessions (each with about 5–10 oral presentations).

A few preliminary items of information on the meeting. As with previous IPS, the format will be 3.5 days with plenaries, oral presentations and poster sessions, and with the half day on Wednesday intended for a couple of possible short excursions (tourist or scientific) and of course a conference dinner. Because Stockholm is a major tourist city that has an excellent public-transportation system which facilitates access to a wide range of housing options from less-expensive hostels (that are geared as much to families as to younger people, but nowadays are more hotel-like in character) to five-star hotels, as well as the ubiquitous airbnb, we will opt to not organize hotel bookings. As the information on the website develops, there will be information on the range of housing options, but these will not be specifically linked to the meeting.

Welcome to Sweden in 2018!

On behalf of the organizing committee,

Rich Bindler
